Hotel Park which is located by the Nagara River was established 120 years ago.
1894 Ryosuke Yamaoka and Sumi Yamaoka established a Japanese inn “Meiji kan” in Osu in Nagoya. 1905 “Meiji kan” was burnt down in a fire. 1916 The second-generation Keitaro Yamaoka and Hama Yamaoka established a restaurant “Hassokaku” Their famous beef pot served in gold pots and silver pots became very popular and people made long lines to eat there. 1917 They opened a Japanese inn “Minato kan” by the Nagara river in Gifu city. This is the start of Hotel Park. 1935 The Nobel Prize winning writer Yasunari Kawabata visited there three times and wrote a story set there. |

Hama could speak English which was rare back then, so she sometimes worked as an interpreter for the Gifu city mayor.
July 31st ,1932 The third generation Yoshio Yamaoka and Tomoko Yamaoka inherited the inn. Tomoko was only 19 years old. |

June 1st, 1946 American troops took over the inn to use as a
residence.
The next six years, they used a rented house for their business.
May 10th, 1952 The American troops released the building. Two days later, the inn was opened as the Minato kan Corporation They strongly advertised the opening to the people |
It attracted public attention as the first steel framed hotel. They bought a motor coach as soon as possible for picking up customers from the Gifu station. |

October 1st, 1960 The fourth-generation Tuneo Yamaoka and
Fujiko Yamaoka inherited the hotel
Japan was at the height of economic boom that time.
When the NHK drama “Kunitori monogatari” hit the air which is the story of
Nobunaga Oda and was shot in Gifu. About 400,000 people visited
Gifu to watch cormorant fishing.
However, as time went by many of the hotels lost their business.
Hotel Park still has the excellent hospitality carried on through its
long history.
They have the pride of living by the Nagara River and the deep dedication to
customers which they kept even during the hard times.
